Assembly of Optical Pickup Unit (OPU) |
|
An optical disc drive (ODD) uses laser light as part of the process for reading and writing data. Common media and
technology families include CD, DVD, and Blu-ray Disc. The most important part of an optical disc drive is the Optical Pickup Unit (OPU), consisting of an optical path, which is placed in a Pickup Head (PUH). Optical paths typically consist of a semiconductor laser, lenses for guiding the laser beam, and photodiodes which detect the light
reflection from the disc's surface.
There are multiple applications for UV spot curing systems in the manufacturing of the Optical Pickup Unit. This application note provides a brief overview of
the assembly process for the objective lens within the OPU, and highlights the important role of UV spot curing. OPU manufacturers can benefit from using the OmniCure® S2000 UV Spot Curing System and High Power Fiber Light Guides to ensure proper alignment of the optical components in the assembly of OPU's, for a cost-effective, repeatable process.
